STORY TELLING WITH YOGA

FEEDBACK FROM SCHOOLS

NSW PRIMARY SCHOOLS

DURRUMBUL PUBLIC SCHOOL: M. CHANNELS (PRINCIPAL 2003)
During 2002 and 2003 Joanna worked with children from our school taking them through experiences of Yoga. The children found these sessions very relaxing and the staff observed a variety of other benefits. The children who participated were noticeably calmer following the sessions. This made it easier for them to concentrate and for some, especially the boys, less likely to be involved in conflict during the rest of the day. Learning seemed to come just a little bit easier. Joanna has a marvellous technique with the students. Our parent body were extremely pleased with the results and have asked us not only to run the programme again next year, but to extend it.

MURWILLUMBAH SOUTH INFANTS SCHOOL: R. EDWARDS (PRINCIPAL 2003)
Joanna attended our school in 2002 to teach Yoga to our children. The benefits for our children have been numerous. The staff have noticed the children have increased upper body strength and coordination. Skills in the areas of balance and concentration have also increased. Thankyou for your time, hard work and expertise.

STAFF FROM TWEED HEADS SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL (2002)
Students from Preschool to Year 6 have all shown great enthusiasm to participate in the Yoga programme that Jo has presented at our school. They have enjoyed and been challenged by the innovative, beautifully presented Yoga lessons that are aimed at the children's developmental level. Jo's stimulating, warm, sensitive personality and skills as an educator enriches the learning outcomes of the students and significantly promotes their personal development and the importance of a balanced healthy lifestyle.

BOGANGAR & POTTSVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL: C. BARLOW (TEACHER) 2007
I have been able to utilize Joanna's expertise for 6 years at both Pottsville and Bogangar Schools as part of our Sports and PDHPE programme. The lessons addressed the physical and mental aspects of the child and provided a much needed focus on positive health and self esteem, which is increasingly important for our children. Joanna creates a calm, positive and supportive atmosphere, and she is attentive to individual children's needs and professional at all times. The Yoga classes were appreciated by the parents and the children. I am happy to recommend Joanna's Yoga for Kids programme.

CAPE BYRON RUDOLPH STEINER SCHOOL: T. PALMER (CLASS 5 TEACHER) 2006
I have watched my class develop their physical strength and flexibility in Jo's Yoga classes during the last 4 years. She presents her classes in a richly imaginative story based way that is tailored to fit in with our main lesson themes. The children experience actively using their bodies to express aspects of the stories through the yoga poses and sequences of movement. As well, they have learnt focus and visualisation techniques that give them an experience of inner harmony. To see the whole class at peace during relaxation is just such a wonderful vision.

STAFF FROM KANGIA STEINER SCHOOL, MURWILLUMBAH 2003
The teachers regard your Yoga programme as innovative, creative and inspiring. Within the lessons the children learn respect for themselves and their environment. The Yoga sessions are very well planned, involving all students on a physical, mental and emotional level. Your Yoga class is definitely a high spot of the week for the children.

BYRON BAY VACATION CARE : COORDINATOR RAVI SIMONS 2005
Joanna has worked at our centre for 5 years. The Yoga classes she conducts at the centre have become a popular favourite. She weaves a spell of relaxation and enchantment with her imaginative classes, as well as physically strengthening the children's bodies

FEEDBACK FROM PRESCHOOLS

CLUNES PRESCHOOL: DIRECTOR, MELINDA GAMBLEY
Joanna's Yoga sessions are a high quality learning experience, that are enjoyed by children and staff. The Yoga classes are developmentally appropriate. Learning Yoga has helped the children develop: body awareness, muscular strength and gross motor skills. Joanna's classes promote the children's listening skills, aural comprehension, and focuses their attention, and also helps them to understand the importance of a regular time to be quiet and relaxed. We have now incorporated a regular Yoga time into our daily Programme.

TWEED HEADS SOUTH PRESCHOOL: DIRECTOR, BRONWYN DOWLING
With Joanna's background in Early Childhood Education, I have found she has added a new dimension to our preschool programme & I have incorporated some of her ideas into our programme. Her lessons are always well resourced, creative and stimulating for young minds and bodies. Parents have been very positive about the Yoga classes. She has been teaching here for 7 years.

BYRON BAY PRESCHOOL, JONSON STREET: Director for 25 yrs, Anne McCabe, 2003
Joanna combines movement, drama and imagination in every session in which the children are willing and creative participants in a beautiful blend of flexibility, relaxation, story and reflection. The very reasonable cost provides wonderful value compared to other “entertainments”, which have less educational value and limited participation. Joanna's Yoga classes are a highlight for many of our children.

POTTSVILLE PRESCHOOL: STAFF & DIRECTOR, SHELLEY
Jo has been presenting Yoga at our preschool for the last 7 years and the classes are now part of our curriculum. With Jo's expertise in Early Childhood Development and Yoga techniques, and the way it is presented, the children quickly embrace the classes. Her programme not only promotes physical development, but also concept deveopment. Jo's interactive teaching style uses stories to capture the children's imagination, and by listening and doing, the children are making connections between language and actions. Jo's Yoga programme compliments the holistic way in which young children learn.
